For English councils

The governance platform
councils run on.

One platform for meetings, councillors, documents, and your public website. Configured once. After that, every meeting takes about five minutes to set up.

What you get

Six pieces, designed to work as one.

No integrations to wire up. No second login. No shuffling lists between disconnected apps.

Meetings module

Pick the meeting type. The pack PDF assembles itself from your standing agenda, attendees, and uploaded papers. The public notice publishes automatically at the three clear days requirement. Optional in-room recording today, so the clerk listens back in one place instead of digging through phone audio. Auto-transcript is coming next, so you'll search the words rather than scrub the timeline.

Live mode + recording today, transcript next

Councillor portal

Magic-link sign-in, no passwords to lose. One home screen with the next meeting, pre-reads, action items, and anything waiting on a signature. Apologies submitted in advance with one click.

Mobile-first

Document library

Versioning, retention tags, and the Transparency Code categories already configured. Three visibility levels (Private, Council, Public) decide what residents see; flipping a document to Public publishes it to your site instantly. Connect your council's OneDrive or SharePoint and every file lives there too, so your documents always sit somewhere you control.

Approvals for anything

Any decision that needs a sign-off, routed the right way: cheques, licences, planning responses, grant awards, policy adoptions, FOI replies, minutes. Define the rule once ("2 of 3 signatories", "Chair only", whatever your standing orders say) and the platform chases councillors until it's signed.

We chase the signatures, not you

Public website

WCAG 2.1 AA accessible. Built-in pages for everything you're legally required to publish. Custom domain, your colours, your logo. Page editing where it makes sense, structure where it matters.

.gov.uk domain supported

Real human support

UK business hours, by chat, email, and phone. One person who knows your council. Response times published and tracked. No ticketing system to learn.

By name, not by ticket
How it works

A dozen manual steps becomes one click.

Three of the biggest jobs in a clerk's week: publishing a meeting, producing the minutes, and raising a payment. Here's what each looks like today, and what it looks like with Council Works.

Today, without a platform

The clerk does it all by hand.

  1. Write the agenda in Word.
  2. Email the chair to approve the draft.
  3. Photocopy the pack at the parish office.
  4. Email the pack to every councillor.
  5. Update the council website with the meeting date.
  6. Post the meeting to the village Facebook group.
  7. File the agenda in OneDrive (or wherever).
  8. Pin the public notice to the noticeboard.
  9. Email a reminder 48 hours before.
With Council Works

The clerk clicks Publish.

About

Built by a councillor, for the clerk next to him.

For two years I sat through monthly council meetings, watching our clerk do everything: prep the agenda, photocopy the packs, fix the printer, hold an ageing website together, and chase us through her inbox for signatures we'd already promised. By day, I spent fifteen years building fintech and compliance software for institutions that wouldn't dream of running this way. Our clerk deserves better. Every clerk does. So we built Council Works.
